BENZOXIN

Active ingredient: Benzoyl peroxide 5% or 10%. BPO releases oxygen free radicals that destroy P. acnes bacteria, has keratolytic properties to unclog pores, and reduces sebum production. It also has mild anti-inflammatory effects. Available in different strengths for varying acne severity.

Start with 5% formulation. Cleanse and dry skin thoroughly. Apply thin layer to affected areas once daily initially, increasing to twice daily as tolerated. Best applied in the morning (can be combined with retinoid at night). Bleaches fabrics - use white towels and pillowcases. Full effects visible in 4-6 weeks.

Mild to moderate inflammatory acne, comedonal acne prevention, combination therapy with retinoids or antibiotics. Effective against antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Can be used as monotherapy or adjunct treatment. Suitable for back and chest acne.

May cause dryness, redness, peeling especially in first 2 weeks. Start with lower concentration and increase gradually. Bleaches hair and colored fabrics. Avoid simultaneous use with other drying agents. Can deactivate tretinoin if applied together (use at different times). Pregnancy Category C - consult physician. May increase sun sensitivity - use SPF. Rare allergic contact dermatitis possible.
